When will anti-transhumanism become a serious political issue?

We might have different definitions of "serious political issue" and "prominent demographic" - I'm talking about the level at which candidates for political office make demonizing you a part of their campaign.

My prediction is that the demonization will begin long before transhumanists have the popularity, clout or resources to alter the established order in a significant way. Atheists are probably the best parallel.

Edit: How would you define prominent?

Atheists became prominent (again) in the United States around the time that The End of Faith came out and became popular. I think the Stonewall riots brought homosexuals into public prominence in the United States, but I have a poor grasp of history.
