Starting lines with # signs turns them in headings. You have to escape them as \#.

Yes, a preview option would be very nice. Until someone implements one, you can

  1. submit your comment, immediately view it, and edit it if necessary, or

By the way, you didn't do the backslash escaping quite right. You need to have no space between the backslash and the number sign. Edit: TraderJoe fixed this.
