I wonder, are celebrity one-night stands more socially acceptable than celebrity sperm banks? The former is morally condemned by a lot of people; the latter is weird.

The former is morally condemned by some people (may no longer even be a simple majority); the latter is weird and disliked by most everyone.

Weirdness is sufficient to inspire hatred. (If you doubt me, spend some time browsing Wikipedia's AfDs.) The recent flurry of cryonics stuff shows that, I hope.

If you don't find that convincing, easy enough to manufacture reasons eg. it's covert eugenics and thus threatening, or it's a waste of resources, or it encourages risky behaviors, or it undermines traditional morality, or...
