There is a new discussion section on LessWrong.

This is to:

  • provide a place you can post with lower karma consequences than the main site

  • provide a place you can discuss things you think are not worthy of the main site

  • provide a place you can work with the community to tune something up until it's ready for the main site

  • give you guys an opportunity to make up your own uses for this part of the site.

(There's a link to there at the top right, under the banner)

That's what I wondered too; according to Kevin:

The community might converge on that but with how things work around here both will probably be around for a while.

I imagine it will replace the open thread; once you have a discussion area I don't see what's left in the open thread :P

I would like to see the discussion section (or a more robust set of subreddits) replace the open threads, but let's try it out for a while and wait to see if we can form a consensus.
