If you want to remember something for the long haul you should study it in many differing places times and environments. This goes pretty strongly against the normal advice on the quiet room.
For reference, this article discusses that and also some related concepts. Another one which might work for EY is that periodic testing helps with information retention (apparently true, but might not seem to be if one equates "being tested" with "cramming instead of learning").
