You know, when I first read this post I thought "You have some interesting points, but this is obviously just a clever argument that's going to be used to justify posting stupid bullshit to LessWrong," so I downvoted. I didn't make that remark in public, though, because it would be rude and maybe I would end up being wrong.

Now that I see what this post is being used to justify, it seems clear that my prediction was correct.

Why are people upvoting a comment that doesn't actually object to anything in this post, and just refers to another post I wrote as "stupid bullshit?"

Perhaps they agree with me?

I honestly didn't want to post any of this, and indeed withheld my objection at first, because I (like Eliezer) think "that's just a clever argument" can quickly become a fully general debating tactic. But it's striking to me how quickly my prediction was, in my view, proven correct, so I thought it was worth drawing attention to.
