This is exactly how I feel. I would slightly amend 1 to "I care about family, friends, some other people I know, and some other people I don't know but I have some other connection to". For example, I care about people who are where I was several years ago and I'll offer them help if we cross paths - there are TDT reasons for this. Are the they the "best" people for me to help under utilitarian grounds? No, and so what?
