I'd prefer more posts that aim to teach something the author knows a lot about, as opposed to an insight somebody just thought of. Even something less immediately related to rationality -- I'd love, say, posts on science, or how-to posts, at the epistemic standard of LessWrong. Also I'd prefer more "Show LessWrong" project-based posts.

Agreed; how about an open thread "what could you teach us about?" to gauge interest? A bit like this thread, but focusing on supply instead of demand. I'll post one in a few days if nobody else does first.

I wonder if an occasional discussion post where people can make requests or float ideas to gauge interest could help this. The motivation would be greater if you know there is an audience for your expertise.

Agreed. There is lots of 'deep knowledge' in the brains of Less Wrongers, and I would love to see it shared!
