For various reasons, I don't listen to podcasts. Is there any reasonable way to get a text version of a podcast when none has been provided? (Pretend I'm totally deaf.)
There are a number of text-to-speech (transcription) services out there. Kalzumeus uses CastingWords. The cheapest option (price determines speed of transcription) runs a dollar a minute, so it'll be pricey for most podcasts--but you could consider it a donation and send the finished transcript on to the podcast creator, ideally convincing them to start producing their own transcripts.
There's also a lot of transcription software out there, but the quality might not be as good as you'd like.
If it's worth saying, but not worth its own post (even in Discussion), then it goes here.
Notes for future OT posters:
1. Please add the 'open_thread' tag.
2. Check if there is an active Open Thread before posting a new one. (Immediately before; refresh the list-of-threads page before posting.)
3. Open Threads should be posted in Discussion, and not Main.
4. Open Threads should start on Monday, and end on Sunday.
