Any thoughts? "Musk-backed startup that wants to give away its artificial intelligence research, also wants to make sure AI isn’t used for nefarious purposes. That’s why it wants to create a new kind of police force: call them the AI cops."

Companies like Google are going to invest more money into developing AI than OpenAI itself does. As such OpenAI can't fullfil it's mission by going alone. What it can do is devise clever systems to interact with other stakeholders and build relationships to push things in the right direction.

Single moves on the chessboard also don't reveal underlying strategy.

Previous LW discussion of OpenAI here (which, I think, doesn't include any mention of the AI cops idea).
