The true value of Zvi posts is that it costs very few Weirdness Points to read but quite a few to reference in conversation.

Here is the podcast episode for this post. I really hope some people are finding value in these conversions:

Thanks for the feedback! Sorry the voices aren't quite to your taste. A new model ver ion of the base voice gen is due to be released imminently, which may sound better to your ear. I personally quite like the "World Weary and Wise" quality of the main voice for Zvi, especially around sections where there inevitably people making fairly ridiculous claims and statements.

Askwho60

Going to take the opportunity to post a reminder that I am producing an ElevenLabs quality, muti-voiced podcast for the Don't Worry About the Vase feed.

These Don't Worry About the Vase podcast episodes aren’t just simple text-to-speech conversions. For example, in this post, I’ve pulled all the "User," "Compliant," and "Violation" quotes, given them distinct and consistent voices within the episode, and ensured a logical order—all to make the episode as engaging and coherent as possible. ... Thanks for the podcast !  To me the voices (especially the main voice) on the podcast sound like they're depressed / they can't wait to be done with this podcast narration thing. Is there any way to "cheer them up" ? For refference the type3.audio narration on posts seems to have a good tone to it.

Reminder that I am producing a multi-voiced, ElevenLabs MV2 quality podcast feed for Don't Worry About the Vase for those that find that a valuable thing:

All uniquely quoted people get a distinct voice for easy differentiation, and I personally find the main "Zvi Voice" really good for long listening.

Askwho380

I've turned this into a full cast recording with ElevenLabs, with individual voices for all the players:

Multi voiced podcast episode for this post in all is two hours and thirty eight minute glory!

(Fun fact, the voice I gave Nate was the one created for contract devils in Planecrash)

Askwho50

Yeah, just plugging any old unadjusted text straight in to ElevenLabs would get you funky results. I really like Zvi's posts though, I think they are high quality, combining both great original content and a fantastic distillation of quoted views from across the sphere. I do fair amount of work on the text of each post to ensure a good podcast episode gets made out of each one.

Askwho20

Thanks! Yes, I am aware, please, I would encourage you to listen to the difference. I am running this through ElevenLabs, which is currently (IMO) at the forefront of humanlike voices, if produces lifelike tone and cadenced based on cues. I also go through and assign every unique quoted person a unique voice, to ensure clear differentiation when listening, alongside extracting text from images, and providing a description when appropriate.

I really do implore you, please, have a listen to a section and reply back how you find it in comparison.

I do think the eleven labs voice is a bunch better for a lot of the text. My understanding is that stuff like LaTeX is very hard to do with it, and various other things like image captions and other fine-tuning that T3Audio has done make the floor of its quality a bunch worse than the current audio, but I think I agree that for posts like this, it does seem straightforwardly better than the T3Audio narration.
Askwho172

Whew, this heroic length post translates to 2 hours and 23 minutes of top-quality narration :D

Podcast episode for this post:

I want to share these links in the comments because I hope people who, like me, find audio more accessible, are able to learn of the existence of this podcast feed. I put a fair bit of work into ensuring a high-quality audio feed. I'm not trying to just spam, but if this is outside the norms of ... (read more)

I've upvoted this post back into life, to be clear.

You may wish to know that there is built in audio narration. You can click the little speaker icon underneath the title to pop up the audio player. Also, if you search “Lesswrong Curated & Popular” on a podcast service, you should be able to find a podcast feed of those posts.

Thank you for your service. This is a good thing, and everyone who downvoted you is personally responsible for this site having gotten worse.

Podcast episode now live for this post on the recently launched Don't Worry About the Vase Podcast Feed!

Askwho40

I'm sharing this again because I want to make sure this accessible option for Zvi's highly worthwhile posts is known to anyone who might find it useful. I know LessWrong has automatic TTS for its posts, but I'm creating an ElevenLabs version for all of Zvi's posts, which I personally find easier to listen to for longer form texts.

A couple of things that make this version unique:

  1. Every quoted person gets their own individual voice for easy differentiation.
  2. I create audio descriptions of the charts and graphs.

If you're a fan of audio content, please do give th... (read more)

Lots of points of views in this, here is an AI "Narration" of this post where every unique quoted person is giver their own distinct "Voice"

Askwho20

Long post is indeed long, AI audio conversion for those that like to consume that way:

Askwho30

Whew this one was a bit of a doozy, multi voiced AI narration where everyone gets their own voice:

Link

Hopefully people do find it useful. I know I've been able to consume more with my dyslexic preference for audio. I do put a fair bit of work into things like giving every distinct "speaker" their own voice. And,.for me at least, the end product is a good listen.

Askwho11

Multi Voiced AI narration of this post. Every unique quoted person gets their own voice to distinguish them:

A (slightly ironically this time) multi voiced AI reading of this post (All voiced originally generated, I swear!): Link

Thank you for this, I had listened to the lesswrong audio of the last one just before seeing your comment about making your version, and now waited before listening to this one hoping you would post one
Askwho40

I've produced a muti-voiced ElevenLabs quality AI narration episode for this post:

Askwho80

It is not cheap. It's around ~$20 per hour of audio. Luckily there are people on bord with this project who help cover cost through a Patreon

1regnarg
Is the recording schedule based on Patreon cash flow? I.e. if more people support, could we get episodes faster? Or is it also limited by your time? (not sure how much manual labour goes into this vs just paying for the service) Would it be possible to put money toward a specific project? This may be an interesting incentive for people who'd like to see more of their favourite story sooner:)
Askwho20

Thanks so much! Glad you are enjoying the audio format. I really agree this story is worth "reading" in some form, it's why I'm working on this project.

Askwho80

I've produced a multi voiced Elevenlabs reading of this post, for ease of listening and speaker differentiation.

Askwho14

I have to say I'm slightly surprised, I personally think the ElevenLabs voice is more emotive, and I find it much easier listening. Is the general opinion that it is actually inferior?

1habryka
Hmm, I feel like our on-site audio recording is better than this (click on the speaker button at the top of this post), so I am a bit confused why you went through the effort of getting it AI narrated.
Askwho230

With such a cast of characters, I've done a full voiced ElevenLabs narration for this post:
https://open.substack.com/pub/askwhocastsai/p/read-the-roon-by-zvi-mowshowitz

Askwho60

I've created an ElevenLabs AI narrated version of this post. I know their is already a voice option on this page, but I personally prefer the ElevenLabs output. https://www.patreon.com/posts/93392366?utm_campaign=postshare_creator

If you are looking for any support on a more naturalistic version of those posts that make it to the podcast feed, I have been experimenting heavily and producing an ElevenLabs AI podcast of Yudkowsky's latest fiction. I have an API pipeline already built, and could assist in producing a test episode or two.

Askwho20

I have taken up the torch, and I am creating a podcast of Planecrash using a version of current-gen voice tech to create a multi-voiced performance. Weekly episodes are coming out here https://shows.acast.com/project-lawful-aka-planecrash
