Especially, as you have written on quite an old comment and I personally see it like an audacity, made me realize much of my aversion comes from seeing commenting on old posts like "tinkering with years-old discussion that is practically archived in perfection (or is dead and unvisited)".
The upvotes on your reply make it evident that comment section on old posts is live (at least, is read), and I think maybe something like a counter of post reads, made in the last couple of months, would make it more encouraging to start new conversations.
