This is my first comment on Lesswrong. I started reading HPMOR recently and now I can't get enough. It's witty, brilliant, and well written- I love it! Here I was thinking that all Fanfictions were bad. I had a small thought which is very nit-picky and I'm sure people will fill me in if I'm missing anything, but if any site in the world seems like the right one to ask questions it's here.
"He prepared to swig another drink and started towards the distant seating area, which put him at the right angle to glance back and see the portion of the stall's newspaper stand that was devoted to a newspaper called The Quibbler, which was showing the following headline:
BOY-WHO-LIVED GETS DRACO MALFOY PREGNANT
"Gah!" screamed Draco as bright green liquid sprayed all over him from Harry's direction. Draco turned to Harry with fire in his eyes and grabbed his own can. "You son of a mudblood! Let's see how you like being spat upon!" Draco took a deliberate swig from the can just as his own eyes caught sight of the headline."
If Harry was facing the newspapers at the exact moment he saw the headlines which caused him to spit on Draco (whom he must have been facing), that would mean that when Draco turned to Harry, assuming he didn't turn anywhere else while drinking (and also turn back to Harry to spit) he would have been facing away from the newspapers and thus unable to see the hilarious headline.
I also was just a little confused by the dialog between Harry and Draco when Harry said:
"Actually, can we hold off on that? After I found out that headline came from a girl a year younger than me, I had a different thought for my revenge... I was thinking someday I'm going to marry that woman."
.......
"You've got weirder taste than a Lestrange," Draco said, sounding half-admiring about it. "And I suppose you want her all to yourself, huh?"
"Yep. I can owe you a favor for it -"
Draco waved it off. "Nah, this one's free."
I understand that Harry was trying to save her, but how does marrying her constitute revenge in any universe? Meaning wouldn't Draco have just been confused and seen through Harry's plan? And then he says I suppose you want her all to yourself as if Harry's plan is great but he still wants to rape her too? The one thought I had when I was saying it over to someone was that since the headline was about Harry impregnating someone it would be "revenge" to impregnate her. But on pain of being too crass, that doesn't obviate Draco's plan ("Though just imagine her saying she'd been done by Draco Malfoy and the Boy-Who-Lived"). Unless Harry was just saying that he wanted to be the only one (but he says marry and seems to propose it as a different idea). Now I'm wondering if it has to do with the fact that he says "a girl a year younger than me" as if that changed anything. I'm very confused-please help. I'm sure I'm overthinking and missing something simple, but for the life of me I can't figure out what.
