Are you sure Mendeley is open-source? Cause I can't find any source code for anything but the SDK for the API which is not the same as Mendeley the reference management software.
In fact, looking at the terms of use for Mendeley the reference management software, section 2.3 specifically disallows a number of rights that open-source licenses protect. Notably, the right to copy and right to modify.
Anyway, to anyone looking for an actual open-source reference manager, I recommend Zotero.
