I hope other folks will chime in if they disagree with me, but I'd say that "Are you proud of yourself?" is always an attack, and specifically a parent-to-child sort of attack at that.

If you believe it's likely that an honest answer to a question is likely to leave the person answering it feeling really bad, then the question is an attack. At the same time, I think you're telling the truth when you say you're perplexed that it was taken as a loaded question.

I've got some guesses about what's going on with you, but it's getting into pretty personal territory. Let me know if you're interested, and if so, whether you'd prefer a public post or a private message.

As a suggestion, the phrase "my superior understanding" will rarely be well received, even in a hypothetical.

Do you ever feel angry or irritated when you post? Are you aware of when posts (yours as well as other people's) sound rude or hostile?

I don't understand social cues. I created an internal GLUT for social interaction, the same way I learned the English language and grammar. It took me a very long time, a lot of effort, and a willingness to update rapidly and on the fly.

My primary tools are the questions, "How so? You mean _? Which part? What do you mean? What?" (short, open-ended interjections to provide free range for expansion), a judgment of when to use them, listening to and cataloging people's statements about their social reactions (in the same way one might learn what types of food people like), and the ability to mirror the tone and body language of the person or group I'm conversing with (studying people who have expressive faces and voices helped with this).

You seem to enjoy your troll-mode statements, and seem to think it may be effective in generating conversions to truth. I believe the downvotes you receive show otherwise. I much prefer your comments-not-about-people-directly. I flinch when I think this is another "not-X" statement, but sometimes not-X is appropriate advice: when extra action is being taken (such as including specific insults against targeted individuals), removing that action can improve the situation, leaving the rest of the core intact. If someone put a tilde after every period, telling them not-tilde would be the proper thing to do.~

If you have any questions regarding my methods, I would be happy to answer them to the best of my ability, but from your response to other offers, I place a low probability on it being what you want (apparently a fully generalized understanding of human social behavior).

I'm stepping away from this conversation so I don't do anything drastic (that I haven't already deleted). Suffice to say you've succeeded once again in creating an enormous, out of proportion negative emotional response in someone who was genuinely trying to be objective and help you.

I know very few people as effective as you are at generating anger and frustration with the written word.

This seems like you were going to make a negative judgement if he claimed pride. Thus the question does seem loaded. Pride is one of those thing that it is not a good thing to be fairly often.

It might well be Rain thinks that you had the same sort of problems he did(?) and was taking steps that would have helped him. But for whatever reasons they don't help you.

Also try not to take karma loss too personally. It also signals to other readers of the site what is good or bad. It is simply a number in the database.

Depends. Do you count honking at me when I don't realize a light has changed? That certainly "worked". I'd do the same to others, and I expect them to do the same to me.

Many people don't see the intellectual issues to be as clear-cut as traffic lights, especially in complex discussions. If someone honks at you on the road and it isn't obvious that you are making a driving error, it's going to get your back up, right? Same thing in intellectual discussions. Even if it should be obvious to someone that they are making an intellectual error, it's not always the right move to honk at them immediately.

I did regard them as loaded questions. That characteristic is orthogonal to their accuracy.

But even if I didn't, your parenthetical has not helped you. It was an attempt to score points, and those points will not make you stronger. That dig at Rain has not helped you communicate or explain anything other than your disdain; you are not trying to solve the problem.
