Eliezer said in his Intelligence Explosion Microeconomics that Google is maybe the most potential candidate to start the FOOM scenario.

I've gotten the impression that Google doesn't really take this Friendliness business seriously. But beyond that, what is Google's stance towards it? On the scale of "what a useless daydreaming", "an interesting idea but we're not willing to do anything about it", "we may allocate some minor resources to it at some point in the future", or something else?

What if they just want to appear unbiased, neutral and give every view point their fair share of the book? Doesn't mean they endorse it in any way.

It difficult to know from the outside how Google spends it money on undisclosed projects.
