A new study shows that manipulative behavior could be linked to the development of some forms of altruism. The study itself is unfortunately behind a paywall.

Unclear. One could conceive of similar action occurring in highly social species that aren't eusocial but have limited numbers of breeding pairs, but that's not frequently done by primates.
