This week we'll be playing coordination / game theory games! Everyone will submit answers to various games like “pick a number between 0 and 100 closest to 2/3 of the average submission“, variants on the iterated prisoner's dilemma, etc. After everyone submits their initial entry for each game, we’ll open up communication and strategy discussion and then try a second time.
Can you correctly anticipate what strategies dominate the strategies everyone else plays? Can you use your ability to communicate to achieve collective victories? Will you or they then defect on everyone? Come find out!
We'll will put together Google Forms and a spreadsheet which computes the scores; we'll also print QR codes and short URLs so people can fill out the forms on their phone. I'll have a laptop and can submit any entries for people who don't have a phone with internet. Some games will include rewards of mostly comedic value based on your or the group's scores, so as to provide proper incentives.
The meetup will start at 6pm (note the earlier start time!) in the lawn in front of ”Pavilion, by Demetri Porphyrios” - Google Maps link. Don’t worry if you show up late, it’ll be very easy to join the next game - but if you drop by later and don’t see anyone, check the tables north or south of the pavilion in case we move there.
The games will likely end around 7:30 or 8pm, and after that people can hang around and socialize for as long as they like. Last meetup we had 30+ people there until 8pm, around 10-25 until 9pm and 5 of us hung around all the way to 11:30pm. Some people also split off and got dinner together.
