We'll discuss "value drift", an important(and dangerous!) phenomenon that has the potential to significantly affect would-be altruistic people.
Value drift is the idea that over time, people's priorities and moral actions may significantly change. In some cases, this may result in people becoming less motivated to help others. This can be due to having different values, less dedication to those values, lifestyle changes making altruism more difficult, or a number of other reasons.
This has recently garnered attention in the EA forum.
