Beautiful, with a high emotional impact. A more poetical verison of EY's baseball bat metaphor.

Edit:

Link corrected, I apparently just copy-pasted and didn't notice I was linking to the main page.

Don't link to the main page, obviously. Tomorrow and forevermore, your link will go to the wrong comic.

Or until he posts his next obviously influenced by transhumanism comic, which shouldn't be too long.

In which case he'd be right, but for the wrong reasons.

What if I offered Zach Wiener a ridicolous amount of money to buy the domain and make the link permanent? It very likely happened in some Everett Branch anyway, so I'm not 100% wrong, depending on how you define a measure in MW.

Or I must just admit that I didn't double check...link corrected, thank you (also RichardKennaway).

Edit

I see this is getting downvoted, I don't particularly care about the Karma, but I hope that I haven't offend anybody, because this wasn't my intent (English is not my first language, and sometimes I'm not 100% sure about how my writing comes off). In this case I apologize.

Already discussed in the quote thread. Today hasn't been a good day for LWers posting duplicates.

I wonder if Zach Weiner's been introduced to MoR or the Sequences...

Sorry for the double posting, I was a bit in a hurry before, and didn't check, which in retrospect was obviously a mistake, given how popular SMBC is here.

There's no need to apologize; I only became aware of the xkcd quote example because I was the third person to post it.

This needs to link to the specific comic.

I like how everyone who links this talks about the immortality tangent and ignores the first two panels and "suicide is not legitimate". You don't want to live? Too bad, it's your job! You're not happy? You're not trying hard enough! This mythological figure was happy, so you should be too! Depression is a choice!

That's because they are mostly just restating Camus' view, I think. As for myself I still find difficoult to discuss the topic: I've been through some mild (diagnosed) depression, but never to the point to seriously lean toward suicide. I've no clue if it's because I was able to force myself to be sufficiently happy, or I just wasn't feeling bad enough.

I didn't get the first two panels. Can you explain them?

More subtle, less-immportality-oriented SMBC comic with some similarities: http://www.smbc-comics.com/index.php?db=comics&id=2719

Assume a less convenient possible myth. Does Hades seem like the type to let that slide? ;p

True, but I think this one conveys the message in a more powerful way, by keeping Camus' writing mood and subverting the target. It strikes me as particularly effective, as it hits the small residue cached belief about death I still have and somehow blows it up from the inside.

I wasn't trying to make you like it more than the one you posted, but I should have been.

Today's comic was preachy and a bit holey. 2719 was a great example of the medium--it made you laugh first, even if there's a chance it made you think. 2719 lacks the finality and seriousness that might give it holes as big.

Both good comics by any measure, though. Zach Weiner is really good at his job.

I have a soft spot for rhetoric sometimes :) This doesn't mean I didn't like the Sysyphus one, quite the opposite; today's one was just more effective on me.
