Hey everyone,

I just pushed an update that changes the layout of the notifications section to something that should be significantly easier to navigate (and after we've seen it work well for a few days, we will also add a small number next to the bell-icon that tells you how many unread notifications you have).

I've also fixed the private messaging system to now be functional, though still horrible on many dimensions. But at least people should now get notifications if you send them messages, and actually be able to see your messages.

I've also fixed a bunch of bugs that caused comments to appear on the wrong post. Sorry for anyone who was affected by that.

Let us know if you run into any problems, this was a pretty major update behind the scenes, so there is a higher than normal chance that something broke somewhere.

How do I unsubscribe from someone?

When visiting someones profile who I'm already subscribed to the only avalible option is "Subscribe to this user's posts". Clicking this makes "Unsubscribe to this user's posts" appears then disappears with an error "GraphQL error: Cannot query field "subscribedItems" on type "User"."

(apologies if this is not the right place for this type of question)

Ah, that's a straight up bug, and yes this is a good place to ask about that. We'll get this fixed ASAP

awesome.

Thanks for this—it definitely seems better! I sent someone a message, and I think it went through, which is a big improvement.

There are some messages in the UI that don’t show up in the drop-down menu… is this a bug, or…?

Can you say a bit more about what messages and what dropdown you mean? It might be a bug or not, but it’s a bit hard to tell from the current description.

Are there plans to support email notifications? Having to poll the notification tray to check for replies to posts and comments is not ideal.

Yes, definitely. I just really want to avoid spamming people, and so want to be careful before we turn on email notifications. But he infrastructure is there, and I‘ve been doing some testing with it, so it should be ready soon.

Has it been rolled out yet? I would really like this feature.

RE spamming: certainly they can be disabled by default, and you can have an unsubscribe button at the bottom of every email?

Alas, we didn't end up prioritizing this after it turned out that the existing infrastructure that came with our framework wasn't good enough, but it's now quite high again on our priority list.
