The Japan AI Alignment Conference 2023 was a conference on AI alignment with some researchers from the West presenting on the topic. This post has some details about it and some of the talks were recorded. A couple of the videos here are of the talks. Other than that, all I know is that Japan is less focused on DL and they're trying for a less black-box approach.
Recently, there are a lot of discussions about what Western AI labs should do in regard to developing AI and a few discussions about Chinese approaches to regulating AI but I haven't seen any discussion of where Japan stands.
Does anyone have a good summary about the state in Japan?
