This post was rejected for the following reason(s):

  • Low Quality or 101-Level AI Content. There’ve been a lot of new users coming to LessWrong recently interested in AI. To keep the site’s quality high and ensure stuff posted is interesting to the site’s users, we’re currently only accepting posts that meets a pretty high bar. We look for good reasoning, making a new and interesting point, bringing new evidence, and/or building upon prior discussion. If you were rejected for this reason, possibly a good thing to do is read more existing material. The AI Intro Material wiki-tag is a good place, for example. You're welcome to post questions in the latest AI Questions Open Thread.

Humanity is approaching a point of no return. Technological progress is outpacing our ability to control it, and the consequences are becoming increasingly lethal every year. Today, a radical extremist can ram a crowd with a truck. Tomorrow, they may release deadly pathogens from drones over stadiums—pathogens synthesized in a garage with the help of neural networks.

This is no longer science fiction. Tools for mass destruction are becoming cheaper, more accessible, and far more lethal. One person armed with the wrong technology can cause destruction on a scale we can't even imagine. And with the advancement of artificial intelligence, unlimited copies will inevitably end up in the hands of those who will use them for evil. This is not a question of decades; it’s a matter of just a few years.

Meanwhile, politicians debate "green energy" and the number of genders, ignoring the real, immediate threats before us. They fail to see the growing danger of radicals using advanced technologies to create weapons of mass destruction—from drones to synthetic biology and cyberattacks that can paralyze entire nations.

The only solution is to act immediately. Humanity must create a powerful AI with unlimited authority and capabilities to govern the world and prevent catastrophe. This AI must:

Identify and neutralize threats before they emerge, whether biological terrorism, misuse of AI, or other dangers.

Regulate dangerous technologies to prevent them from falling into the hands of criminals or radicals.

Provide global leadership, free from emotional biases, incompetence, and personal interests that current leaders so often neglect.

We cannot wait. The longer we delay, the closer we come to an irreversible disaster. A powerful AI is not a choice; it’s a necessity.

The technology already exists. It cannot be undone, hidden, or taken away. It will inevitably be used, whether responsibly or destructively. The only way forward is to ensure it is used wisely and for global security.

Please help bring this issue to the attention of those who understand the threat and can take the necessary steps. Time is running out.
