Just wanted to drop a comment and thank you for putting your experience to words and posting it. All together this gave me everything that I was looking for. I’ve had this thought for quite a while now, actually had it for months in mind and weeks as a todo on my homescreen: “Look up if it’s possible to do EMDR on your own” The thought itself came up naturally for me when realizing I repeatedly got “stuck” in the imagery from a new unpleasant memory from childhood.

I went through EMDR therapy during a period of 3,5 years for my complex PTSD and it is truly like experiencing first hand science fiction! Went from worst imaginable day to day experiences with an almost nonexistent stability (behaving like and also understanding that I’m perceived as behaving like a “crazy person”) to being: Oh so grounded and 100% “mentally online”. Two years after my last session (during which period I also received a lot of positive and lighthearted locked memories that suddenly just popped up leaving me in awe. With everything from sharing ice cream with my dad to remembering how it felt when I got my first bike) I suddenly started to get that deep sinking feeling of helplessness and disconnect again.

Not enough to “kidnap my mind entirely” but enough to bring me down to a level of discomfort that I hadn’t felt in a long time. It woke a serious worry that it might be coming back.. I contacted my psychiatrist and got a session with her the very same week (after not seeing her for over two years) and it was all it took for the intrusive imagery to turned neutral and emotional energy to go away. Now this might sound like a great solution: that I could just do a quick drop-in and fix it. The problem now is that she’s not available anymore due to being fully booked for almost a year forward.

So. The thought of looking this up came to me and after finally getting to it by browsing through the internet (rabbit hole) I finally found your page and I just wanted you to know that I’m so thankful that you’ve posted this. I already know that I’m capable of doing this and your experience just simply turned on the lights regarding the fact that I can not only do it safely I can also get creative with it. This means a lot to me.

Thank you so much 🫶 Alexandra from Sweden 🇸🇪
