hello! I was introduced to LessWrong through HPMOR. I find rationality interesting as someone who was brought up in an extremely religious household, and trying to wade through what I actually believe rather than what I was taught.
I'm seventeen and am interested in the rationality summer summer camp, but the "gifted in math" part is stopping me short. I'm in honors and ap classes, but I'm not especially amazing at math, nor am I especially bad at it. Is genuine interest in the subject matter enough?
The announcement for the May, June, and July minicamps don't mention a "gifted in math" requirement. You should definitely apply!
EDIT: The May, June, and July minicamps differ from the August minicamp in having less advanced math. This doesn't mean they're less useful! They do cost money but there may be scholarships available. And there's no reason you can't apply to multiple camps.
I may be jaded, but IMO having a "genuine interest" in math would already put you in the 99th top percentile of the population. This might not be as good as being "gifted" (whatever that means), but it should at least be close enough for a rationality camp.

DISCLAIMER: I myself have never been through the rationality camp, so I'm just guessing here.
